Cynthia & Kendall

Cynthia Montoya

Lead Designer / Accidental CEO / Master of overthinking

Oldest of 3 children, raised in a quaint neighborhood in Southern California, Cynthia was like a second mother in many ways. She loved to cook, clean, and entertain. She played piano for 9 years, sang, and could be found reading Nancy Drew books on the grassy lawn of their beautiful LA suburban backyard that was tirelessly well-kept by her mother, who loved to garden and instilled those skills in all her children.

While studying design in Los Angeles, Cynthia began her construction management career while simultaneously building her design firm. The experience she gained with an extensive management background allows her to take charge with industry knowledge while being a productive super-charged creative.

Cynthia founded Urban Gypsy with the intent to share her West Coast experience and inspiration with those who seek to enjoy their space and life in a meaningful and relaxed style (heavily influenced by how she was raised). She has found that incorporating organization into the business has been a very natural progression as all good design starts with an organized thought.

The growing popularity of “getting organized” is only part of what goes into a good design, therefore, before any design is created, organization is always considered.

Her love for color and texture, and recognition of the unsung beauty in homes as expressed by the tastes and possessions of their owners, allows her to unveil a custom look specifically for them - AKA she desires to have the final product something YOU love… not a cookie cutter design.

Cynthia believes every occasion should be a beautiful experience, whether it be hosting a party, reading a book cozied up on the couch with her daughter, enjoying coffee with a friend in the garden, or cooking with loved ones over a glass of wine.

Kendall Mibelli

Design Studio Assistant / Drafter / Social Media Director

Kendall is a creative at heart, originally from picturesque wine country in Northern California. Kendall's love for interior design began long before a formal education. As a child, she would frequently rearrange her bedroom furniture without asking for help from her parents, instinctively shaping the space to reflect her creative vision. This early passion evolved throughout her teenage years, when she served as the set design manager for her high school’s performing arts program, marking the first of many opportunities to craft environments that told a story.

From there, Kendall pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture from Sacramento State, where her passion for design blossomed. Over the years, she has honed her skills through various roles in the design world, working for a home stager, an interior designer, and eventually in a corporate setting as a set designer and stylist for catalogs and commercials. She continues to find inspiration in every space she creates or helps transform.

Kendall says her deep appreciation for interior design comes from more than just arranging furniture or picking colors—it's about creating environments that evoke emotion and reflect personal style. Thoughtful design has the ability to shape how we feel, interact, and experience the world around us.

Kendall thrives in environments that allow for creative expression. Outside of design, she enjoys reading, thrifting, and spending time with her boyfriend and cat, always seeking inspiration in the small moments of everyday life.
